The Florida Highway Patrol said a 16-year-old from Weeki Wachee died in a Wednesday afternoon crash, and a 17-year-old is in critical condition.
It happened at about 3:30 p.m. at U.S. Highway 19 and Country Road.
Troopers said the 16-year-old was the passenger in a vehicle driven by the 17-year-old when it tried to turn left onto Country Road and entered the path of another vehicle.
The vehicles collided, and the 16-year-old died at the scene.
The 16-year-old was identified as Seth Leathers, and the 17-year-old was identified as Garret William Herman, the FHP said in a news release.
The driver of the second vehicle wasn't hurt.
