The Founder of Learn Tampa Bay said she will always be thankful to Barbara Bush.

The Former First Lady, who died Tuesday night at 92, helped save her Plant City literacy program.

"We would not be here," said founder Angelica Ibarra.

Learn Tampa Bay teaches English to parents and children. In 2011, Ibarra was worried the literacy program would have to shut down because of a lack of funding.

Barbara Bush's Foundation for Family Literacy provided the money to keep Learn Tampa Bay open.

"Having her leave that to the community is wonderful," said Ibarra.

Barbara Bush was a strong supporter of books and reading.

As First Lady, she chose family literacy as her cause. She founded the Foundation for Family Literacy in 1989 and also helped pass the National Literacy Act.

"I believe it was one of the most important things she could have left behind," Ibarra said.
