More behind-the-scenes work is taking place on the building of the new St. Pete Pier.

A council meeting is scheduled for Thursday to approve payment for the project. Once this step is done, construction can begin.

Council members also are expected to approve the lease for a bar and grill at the pier, along with a playground.

Here's what's coming up with regard to the Pier Thursday:

  • Final Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) approved authorizing payment that will pave the way for construction to begin on the Pier Approach

  • Approve lease for Doc Fords Rum Bar and Grill at the Pier

  • Approve agreement between City and Earthscape Play for design and installation of kids play equipment

  • Accepting donation from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) for the amount of $250,000 to be used towards the construction of a Sun Shade Structure. A sun safety program is part of the agreement with AAD

  • Approve agreement with Sports and Properties Inc. to provide consulting services related to naming rights at the new Pier

Crews have been working on the pier for about six months, installing new pilings that will hold up the entire pier structure.

Construction of the new pier is expected to be completed in early 2019.
