The Dade City Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a 53-year-old man dead.

Police said the victim, Thomas Burdeshaw, was unconscious on the side of the road when he was hit around 1:45 a.m. in the 14000 block of Sundance Drive. 

Witnesses told police that Burdeshaw had been seen lying near the edge of the roadway on the south side of Blanton Road, east of Michael Street, shortly before he was struck.  

One witness, who went back to check on him, said his body positioning had changed and that he had suffered trauma consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Police said a number of vehicles had passed by the area during that time. 

Pasco County Fire Rescue also responded to the scene and pronounced Burdeshaw dead on scene.
