The Hernando County Animal Services is looking for the owners of dozens of cats and dogs that were being boarded at the We Care for Paws Foundation.

  • Owners of seized animals in Brooksville sought
  • Animals at We Care for Paws Foundation seized
  • Animal Services seeking owners

Officials said the foundation was providing temporary care for dogs and cats in at-risk situations. On June 13, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office seized 56 dogs and 23 cats because the foundation did not meet code as it pertains to the care and welfare of the animals.

Animals Services is urging anyone who used We Care for Paws Foundation to contact them immediately at 352-796-5062. Animals Services is trying to return the animals to their rightful owners, but incomplete record keeping by the foundation has made it difficult to contact the owners, officials said.

Animals with known pet owners that are unreachable will be held until June 27. After that they will become available for adoption or rescue. Animals with no known owners will be processed for adoption and rescue as soon as possible.

Florida State Animal Response Coalition volunteers continue to care for the animals and are in need of donations. If you wish to help, contact HCAS at 352-796-5062.
