BRADENTON, Fla.-- A Bradenton family is frustrated as Irma cleanup continues.

  • Family hired contractor to repair Irma damages
  • They say job is still not done
  • Claim they were stolen from, taking their case to court

For Jarred Foster and his mom Kerry Boyer, the 2018 hurricane season came too quickly.

While they're preparing for whatever storm may come their way this summer, they're still cleaning up from the last season.

When Hurricane Irma ripped through Bradenton, a giant tree went crashing through Foster's bedroom, seriously damaging the home.

"We had a gaping hole in our house and our house was exposed to water for at least four weeks, I was taking buckets of water out every time it rained," Foster said.

It was a long process, but they were able to get $27,000 from their home insurance policy to fix the roof and fence. They hired a contractor, but nine months later they say the job still isn't done.

"It's very frustrating!" Boyer said.

The mother and son say while the roof was patched, they were left without siding or gutters on part of the house. Their fence still sits in pieces, up against a backyard tree.

"That's just not what we agreed upon, the insurance company gave him money to fix our house like it should be," Foster said.

"There's so many things he told me he was gonna do, and he didn't do," Boyer added.

Boyer filed a report with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office claiming that the contractor stole from them. The investigator on the case stated the theft claim was unfounded, and told the family to take their case to court.

While it will soon be in the hands of a judge, they have a warning for others.

"Make sure you check the person out before you hire them," Boyer said.

"If you don't take the action to do the homework yourself, you leave yourself open to vulnerability," explained Foster.

We reached out to the contractor, who said he couldn't comment on the case due to the pending litigation.
