TAMPA, Fla. -- An investigation is ongoing after a woman was struck and killed by a garbage truck Tuesday on Davis Islands.

According to Tampa police, 65-year-old Marcia Rivers was struck just after 9 a.m. on Davis Boulevard near Aegean Drive.

She died at the scene.

Police are still trying to determine the circumstances that led to the crash and what factors may have been involved.

Rivers' neighbor said the roadway where the crash happened can be dangerous.

Karen Kral added that Rivers was a friendly, recent retiree.

"She retired, I want to say, two years ago," Kral said. "I was a teacher. She was a teacher. She retired. Marcia was very nice. She was out and around. Anything she could do to help out with anybody."

Officials say the 49-year-old driver of a City of Tampa Solid Waste vehicle will not face criminal charges.

The driver is expected to face a civil traffic citation involving a death. However, detectives are still investigating what citation would be appropriate given the facts of the case.
