ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.-- Detectives have arrested two people after a St. Petersburg man was struck in the head with a rock, causing serious injuries.

  • Hoffstetter, 64, struck in head by rock, seriously injured
  • Jamari and Dayquan Brown arrested, charged with assault
  • Jamari charged with aggravated battery with deadly weapon

Dayquan Brown, 20, and Jamari Devont-Shadi Brown, 19, were arrested Friday after an investigation into the assault that occurred on June 22.

According to detectives, 60-year-old William Clark was standing outside his apartment when he yelled at two men who were trespassing to stay off the property. The men left the property and returned carrying rocks and a shovel.

Detectives say the men threatened Clark and ran after him with the weapons. Clark retreated inside and called 911.

As the men were walking away, Peter Hoffstetter, 64, stepped outside his apartment and confronted them again for trespassing. Surveillance video showed that a verbal argument ensued and one of the men threw a rock and struck Hoffstetter in the head.

Hoffstetter was later flown to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg hospital for a life-threatening head injury.

Detectives say that during an interview Jamari admitted to assaulting Clark and striking Hoffstetter with the rock and Dayquan admitted to assaulting Clark with a shovel.

They were arrested and transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.

Jamari was charged with aggravated assault and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Dayquan was charged with aggravated assault.
