REDINGTON BEACH, Fla.-- A Bay area Filmmaker is using her talents and imagination to send a message about the importance of protecting our coastlines.

  • Bay area filmmaker hopes to send environmental message
  • Film inspired by BP oil spill
  • Many cast members from bay area

Stepping out from her little slice of paradise, Diana Riggs knows how lucky she is to live on the Pinellas County coast.

It was at her Redington Shores Beach house that she got the idea for her horror film, “Noxious”.

It was inspired by the 2010 BP oil spill.

"It was thought provoking that if the gulf oil spill would collide with the toxic chemicals being dumped in the gulf and what that could create and how it would wreak havoc on a small beach town," Riggs said.

The movie was shot mostly on the beach and around Pinellas County and showcases some local businesses.

"It combines real good horror effects with a lot of comedy relief," Noxious cast member Brian Kahrs said.

Many of the cast members live in the Bay area and hope the film raises awareness about the importance of protecting our environment.

"I've lived on this beach since 1955 and I've seen the changes and the movie addresses a lot of these issues," Bonnie Utz said.

"I think anybody that would watch it would maybe think twice when they're on the beach with what they put in the water and on some level think what could happen," Diana Riggs said.

There will be a special screening of Noxious on July 29 at the Studio Movie Grill in Seminole. For ticket information, click here.
