TAMPA, Fla. -- A Tampa man was hospitalized Monday after he was shot at his home.

  • Police: Man shot over political argument via Facebook
  • Brian Sebring accused of shooting Alex Stephens
  • Sebring confronted Stephens at home over threatening messages

Detectives were told the shooting escalated from a political argument on Facebook between Alex Stephens, 46, and Brian Sebring, 44.

According to detectives, Sebring went to confront Stephens at his home after receiving several explicit messages and threats. Sebring brought his compact Glock semi-automatic pistol, anticipating that the confrontation would escalate, detectives said.

Once Sebring arrived at the victim's home on Wallace Avenue, he honked his horn and waited for Stephens, who, according to the report, charged/sprinted at Sebring after exiting his home. That's when detectives say Sebring pulled out his pistol and fired two shots at Stephens, striking him in the right thigh and butt.

Detectives said Stephens ran away and Sebring fled the scene.

Stephens was transported to Tampa General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Sebring later turned himself into police and has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed firearm.
