ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Here's your Tampa area weather forecast for late Tuesday into Wednesday morning, along with a look at conditions on through Friday.

  • Front stalls to the north
  • Onshore wind flow
  • A.M. storms off Gulf of Mexico

As expected, the west wind started to increase today, so most of the storms ended up east of I-75 by the evening. Those will end with clearing skies overnight into early Wednesday morning.

Lows will be in the low to mid 70s inland, but warm near the coast near 80 due to that onshore breeze.

That same onshore breeze will result in a quicker start to storms coming in from the Gulf of Mexico. A few storms will come in from the gulf after sunrise in coastal regions, especially in Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco county.

The morning storms will all have an eastward movement and will push inland through the day, so that most of them end up well east of I-75 by late in the day into the evening.

That will help keep the highs in check, with most spots stopping around 90.

The cold front to our north will stall out, but it will result in an onshore wind flow again Thursday.

As a result, expect morning showers and storms coming in from the gulf Thursday and progressing eastward across the area. The best coverage of storms on Thursday will be from Pasco county southward as slightly drier air nudges in from the north into Citrus and Hernando county.

Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

After the front falls apart, our winds will shift and come in from the opposite direction starting Friday. That means the storms will go back to a more typical pattern of starting mainly in the afternoon.

The coverage of storms will be at about 40 percent Thursday, going up to about 50 percent Friday.
