ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Rain will end this evening. Clouds will then thin out. Lows will be in the mid-70s.

  • Thunderstorms Sunday afternoon
  • Temps in the 90s
  • Rain continues Monday

Sunday will start quiet with sunny to partly cloudy skies. Thunderstorms will begin on the east coast in the afternoon and will move west toward the Gulf by the evening. With plenty of moisture overhead, coverage will be 60 percent.  High temperatures will top out in the low 90s before the storms begin.

The storms will slowly die down and end in the evening with lows overnight in the low to mid 70s.

Monday will be similar with a dry morning followed by afternoon to evening of thunderstorms. Storms will move west toward our side of the state and out into the Gulf in the evening. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s before the storms begin. The coverage should be a little less than the previous two days.

This pattern of easterly winds will continue into next week. This will give us quiet mornings but active afternoons to evenings when the storms end up on our side of the state later in the day.

So although the rain is concentrated in one part of the day, the coverage ultimately ends up being pretty high since the storms concentrate on our side of the state.

Expect that to be the pattern through Friday. Slightly drier air moves in up above by mid-week. So the coverage of storms will drop down some from then into Friday.

With easterly winds, the highs will reach the low to mid 90s…a little bit hotter than our average, because the storms take a few more hours to get started on our side of the state.

The lows at night however tend to be a couple degrees lower due to the late day heavy rains, helping to cool us down going into the evenings.
