AUBURNDALE, Fla. — According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five people are affected by mental illness.

  • $5-counseling sessions help those making less than $26,000 a year
  • Pieces to Peace Counseling Charities counselors help people facing anxiety, grief

A licensed mental health counselor in Auburndale is working to help those who may need treatment, but cannot afford the help.

There is a new nonprofit in Auburndale providing mental health counseling to low-income families called Pieces to Peace Counseling Charities.

It provides $5-counseling sessions to people who do not have insurance or have high co-pays and make less than $26,000 a year.

Its three licensed-mental health counselors treat clients facing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or grief.

"One of the things we wanted to do by creating this organization was to make counseling more accessible so just kind of eliminating that barrier for individuals," said Antionette Pollard, the founder.

The nonprofit formed in June and it has helped 12 clients.
