It was out with the old and in with the new for the city of Lakeland on Tuesday. A new mayor and three commissioners were sworn in.

The special city commission meeting was held a the RP Funding Center to accommodate the crowd of several hundred meeting.

The outgoing city commissioners including Mayor Howard Wiggs all took turns saying their goodbyes to city staff and thanking supporters and family members for their years of support.

"Lakeland has a tremendous future. May God bless them, all of our citizens and our wonderful city of Lakeland," Wiggs said.

The city clerk swore in Mayor Bill Mutz and commissioners Stephanie Madden, Scott Franklin and Michael Dunn. They all supported family and supporters as well.

"One Lakeland is like a bouquet of flowers, all different kinds of flowers, all different kinds of colors, all adding to the exquisiteness of that bouquet. And that's what we need to see ourselves as as a city," Mutz said.
