CLEARWATER, Fla. -- A 7-month-old girl who was fatally attacked by a dog was being fostered by a Clearwater police officer, the department confirmed Saturday.

  • 7-month-old girl fatally attacked by dog
  • Clearwater police officer was baby's foster parent
  • Dog removed from the home by animal services

The officer was the licensed foster parent caring for Khloe Williams.

Clearwater Fire Rescue responded to a residence on Fairwood Avenue at about 2:12 p.m. Friday.

Authorities said Khloe was being watched by the parents of her foster parent when she was bitten by a mixed-breed dog named Lynnie.

Khloe was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital, where she later died.

The dog was removed from the residence and taken to Pinellas County Animal Services.

Shavon Grossman, Khloe's biological mother, has questions.

"The dog was a mixed breed, but my question is, where were they?" Grossman asked. "She's seven months old. Seven months old. How could she antagonize a dog?"

The Clearwater Police Department and the Department of Children and Families are investigating the child's death.
