We finally had some changes during October. Our long, hot summer continued into October. Our first taste of lower humidity occurred when Hurricane Michael made its way through the Southeast U.S. This pulled some drier air overhead for about a day.

Then we warmed right back up.

Typically, our first cold front of the season comes in the first week or two of October. Well, this year it wasn't until October 21. That was a good front though, as it lowered our humidity basically for the rest of the month. We even ended up with a few mornings in the 40s in our cooler spots.

Even though we had some warm to even hot days a few days after the front, we never really got back into the really hot summer weather. Rain fall was lacking during this month as well. But, that is normal for an October.

Here is a look at the numbers:

Tampa

Average temperature 80.0 (3.7 degrees above average)

Rainfall 1.42” (0.79” below average)

Lakeland

Average temperature 79.3 (2.9 degrees above average)

Rainfall 0.93” (1.63” below average)

Bradenton

Average temperature 79.0 (2.5 degrees above average)

Rainfall 1.10” (1.94” below average)

Brooksville

Average temperature 76.3 (3.3 degrees above average)

Rainfall 0.96” (1.71” below average)

St. Petersburg

Average temperature 81.0 (3.7 degrees above average)

Rainfall 1.04” (1.60” below average)

Looking ahead to November, typically this brings us some more cold fronts and our coldest spots can even see the first freeze of the season by the end of the month. In most cases however, that isn’t until December.

Rainfall continues to be in short supply during November as we only average between 1.5 and 2.5 inches in a typical November.

Enjoy the cooler weather, when it comes back!
