A man is recovering in the hospital Wednesday after a deputy-involved shooting in Hernando County.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the shooting occurred at the intersection of Marble Avenue and Spring Hill Drive. Deputies reportedly received a call shortly before 3 p.m. in connection with an individual at a local convenience store acting erratically and waving a firearm around.

A single deputy confronted the individual after he left the store at the intersection of Marble and Spring Hill Drive. The deputy said the individual refused to comply with orders, and he felt his life was threatened, so he shot him.

The man was talking and alert when he was taken to the hospital. Deputies identified him Wednesday afternoon as Gary Schryver.

He is expected to recover.

No charges are pending.
