The Tampa Bay Rays have plenty of events planned for their 20th season at Tropicana Field.

  • No postgame concerts scheduled during 2018 Rays season
  • Team says it wants to protect playing surface
  • Rays were last in American League attendance in 2015-17

Postgame concerts, however, are not among them.

A team spokeswoman confirmed Wednesday that no postgame concerts are planned this year as the organization wants to protect the playing surface and "minimize events that create excess traffic."

Only two postgame concerts were held at the stadium last year.

In past seasons, the Goo Goo Dolls, Darius Rucker, ZZ Top and Darius Rucker performed.

The Rays drew about 1.25 million fans last season as the team went 80-82. The team ranked last in the American League in attendance.

The team has drawn 2 million fans only once -- the inaugural season of 1998.

The Rays drew at least 1.8 million in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons. Two of the season saw the team reach the postseason.
