HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Hillsborough County man was arrested on aggravated child abuse charges Monday night.

  • Aaron Bordelon charged with child abuse
  • 16-day-old baby suffered skull fractures, brain injury

Deputies said Aaron James Bordelon, 29, is accused of harming a 16-day-old baby, causing serious injuries.

Doctors said the child suffered from skull fractures and severe traumatic brain injury and is in critical condition.

According to the report, Bordelon admitted to hurting the newborn while under his care.

He told deputies he became agitated when the child woke him up so soon after a recent feeding.  He said he forcefully picked up the baby, admitting "this is my fault."

After that Bordelon said he noticed the baby's physical condition deteriorated.  The child began to breathe slowly and had bruising under his eyes and on his eyelids.

Deputies said Bordelon did not seek medical attention until after the baby's mother arrived.  They then took the child to Brandon Regional Hospital using the Lyft ride share service.

During the ride, deputies said Bordelon tried to conceal the bruising with makeup, but the mother removed it before arriving at the Emergency Room.

Aaron Bordelon was arrested and charged for causing serious injuries to a 16-day-old baby including skull fractures and severe traumatic brain injury, deputies said. (Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office)

"Abuse in any form is unacceptable and this case is especially tragic and emotionally difficult for our detectives as it involves an innocent and defenseless child," said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

Bordelon was charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated battery with great bodily harm, and child neglect with great bodily harm.
