HAINES CITY, Fla. — A Winter Haven man was hospitalized Wednesday after crashing into a home in Haines City.

  • 27-year-old crashed into Haines City home
  • Dustin Donahoe charged with careless driving
  • Transmission issues played part in crash

Haines City Police responded to the home on Lake Avenue around 3:30 p.m. where they found Dustin Donahoe, 27, entrapped inside his 2014 white Ford Focus.

Donahoe was extracted and transported to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center for minor injuries.

None of the three occupants in the home were injured during the crash.

Police said Donahoe failed to stop at the stop sign at Tennessee Street and drove through the intersection into the home.

Police said Donahoe showed no signs of impairment, but was not able to remember the crash.  He told police that he was on his way home and that his car's transmission has issues where it sometimes rapidly accelerates.

Donahoe's brother, Cody Donahoe, works at the Haines City Fire Department and confirmed the existing issues with the vehicle.

Donahoe was charged with careless driving.
