CLEARWATER, Fla. —  The Clearwater Historical Society has been around for 40 years.

They've spent the past five of those years working on a new museum and on Saturday, it's finally going to open.

The Clearwater Historical Society Museum and Cultural Center is in the historic South Ward School.

It takes the place of the society's current headquarters at the Historic Plumb House, also in Clearwater. It opened in 1906 at the first publicly funded school in Clearwater.

It closed in 2008, but now will continue to be a place of learning — but this time about Clearwater's history from the 1800s on.

You can see historic photos of sunbathers, sport fishers, and farm workers.

There is even a display dedicated to the Clearwater Jazz Fest. This is only the beginning for the Historical Society on this property.

There are seven buildings in all, including the 1912 High School.

They hope in the next five or six years, to have it filled with memorabilia of Clearwater’s history.
