TAMPA, Fla. — This week's Everyday Hero is making sure every foster child has the clothing and toys they deserve on Christmas morning.

Cassandra Hultz is the founder of Kidology 2.0 whose mission can be summed up in just a few words.

"We enrich the lives of foster children and children being raised by relatives," Hultz said.

It is available in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties to people caring for another family member's child or children.

This all came about because of her own 7-year-old niece, Jaida.

"I'm her legal guardian. If I wasn't here she would be a foster child," Hultz said. "I thought about the kids that aren't so lucky to have a family member as me, so I decided we're going to make their lives better too."

When Bill Murphy visited Jaida and her pal, 3-year-old Emily, with help from mom Jill, they were loading school backpacks. Jill is also Kidology's secretary and a board member.

School backpacks are just one of a great many services Kidology 2.0 provides including covering the cost of school physicals.

Of course it all comes at a cost, and this non-profit depends heavily on community support.

This time of year, gift packages for the holidays with toys and clothes and food are being readied to be delivered to kids who otherwise would have to go without.

It's all a daily part of Hultz’s mission.

"I'm just a normal person that wants to make them feel special," she said.

And with some of the gifts ready to go, a final word or two from young Emily and Jaida.

"Merry Christmas!"
