A man was injured Sunday in the shooting that shut down the southbound lanes of US 19, south of Main Street. The man shot is expected to recover.

On Sunday, New Port Richey police investigators searched the area of Cross Bayou and US 19. Authorities said the shooting appears to be a random act of road rage.

A nearby gas station clerk said the shooting victim told him a group of men on motorcycles were weaving in and out of traffic and one struck his vehicle. When he tried to defend himself, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at him.

The man then drove away to get medical attention.
