HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — It was an emotional day for Pam Wilfong and her family. The city of Brooksville honored and remembered her husband Dennis with a sleigh.

“The kids were his heart and Santa was a way to give anonymously and help them,” Pam said.

Dennis Wilfong was not only known as the man in the red suit around Brooksville, he was also known for the surge suppressor — a device that would help prevent freezers from freezing over.

“He went around door-to-door and he showed them how it would stop their freezer from over freezing because it stopped surges," Pam explained. "That was before them ever having any testing equipment for surge suppression.”

Her husband was adored by many and did so much for everyone in the community since the family moved to Brooksville in 1978.

“Brooksville was so giving and gave so much to us that when he was able to, his biggest thing was to give to them. He brought businesses into the county. He would help the city and the county to work out issues so that they could work together,” she said.

His passing from complications with COVID-19 hit hard for everyone who knew and loved him.

“Make new traditions is all I can do. Keep going and giving as we did before,” Pam expressed, and all while keeping his legacy going.
