KENNETH CITY, Fla. — As flames tore through the Ashford Bayside Apartments late Wednesday night, one neighbor alerted multiple residents to get up and get out of their units.

Matt Claxton said he heard glass shattering and when he went to investigate he saw flames.

That’s when he started going door-to-door just after 11 p.m., making sure his neighbors were alerted.

Multiple residents said the power was out by the time they knew the fire was happening and that the fire alarm in at least some of the units never went off.

"I'm glad everyone came out alive and nobody got hurt,” Claxton said.
