TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa City Council has been caught up in controversy for almost a month.

Amanda Lynn Hurtak will be the new chairperson to represent District 3, replacing Dingfelder, according to the Tampa City Council.

The city council's six members held a special meeting to discuss and vote on Dingfelder's replacement.

Florida Politics reports there were more than 20 applicants for the job. All three finalists are women.

Amanda Lynn Hurtak is a past member of the Charter Review Commission and is on the Variance Review Board.

Meredith Freeman is a real estate lawyer and also chairs the board for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.

Right now, Tampa City Council is made up of all men.

It's the first time that has happened since 1971.

Hurtak's new role in Dingfelder's seat will be held for the next 13 months, and if she wants to keep the seat, she would need to run in a city-wide election.
