PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — After 53 years of extraordinary love and commitment in the classroom, this week’s A+ Teacher is still going strong.

Corey Staney is 75 years old and brings plenty of energy every day to her second grade students at Sand Pine Elementary in Wesley Chapel.

What You Need To Know

“It’s lots of fun, but we’re also learning, yeah, working together,” Staney said of her students. “They’re all for one, one for all. They are positive in their thinking. They’re helpful to one another.

“They’re always very kind to each other. They’re exceptional. They’re going to be a great generation.”

Staney started teaching in 1969.

“You don’t stop. I know I’m 75, but you know what? I don’t feel that way, because every morning I get up for these kids, and I love them. They’re precious.”

“I’m going to be here every day, and there were several years I had perfect attendance. I was here every day. Unless I’m sick or somebody else needs me, I’m here. They need you. You can see when you’re leaving, they count on you. And they know I’m going to be here every day, until the end. That’s the commitment you have to have for these kids.”
