RALEIGH, N.C. — A prestigious break dancing competition is coming to the City of Oaks.

Thursday, June 23, b-boys and b-girls will battle one another in the Red Bull BC One Raleigh Cypher with the hope of advancing to the next stage of the competition in Orlando, Florida.

“Breaking has always been like a challenge, and I always love the fact that like, it’s tough,” said Brandon McCrimmon, also known by No Centss and is a part of the Raleigh Rockers crew. McCrimmon will serve as a judge in Thursday’s cypher. 

With breaking now set to be a sport in the 2024 Paris Olympics, it’s putting  a whole new spotlight on the sport.

“With breaking actually coming to the Olympics in 2024, it’s going to be an awesome thing to just see it as it grows,” McCrimmon said. “I already know it is going to grow. This is just the beginning.”

The event takes place Thursday night at 1053 E. Whitaker Mill Rd in Raleigh. The doors open at 4 p.m. with the event starting at 5 p.m.
