TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The state legislative session will wrap up in about a week.

That is, as long as a budget agreement comes together by Wednesday.

In the final week, legislators still have a large amount of bills to get through.

Among the bills waiting for a vote: Legislation impacting schools, hemp sales and elections.

There's a crucial amendment inside of Senate Bill 7050 that the House will discuss. It's an exemption for a candidate running for president.

The amendment specifically applies to a state lawmaker who is running for president or vice president to keep their position during the campaign.

Many believe this is the legislature's way to allow Gov. Ron DeSantis to stay in his current position while he makes a bid for the White House.

A house bill to create year-round-school in Florida is still waiting for a vote.

The bill would establish a pilot program for kids wanting to go to school through the summer months.   

Also in education, on the Senate side, a bill that would redefine student enrollment preferences for charter schools and also create a monitoring tool for school boards to calculate teacher funds in the classroom teachers’ association supply assistance program.

And finally, a Senate and House bill on hemp extract is creating controversy for the popular CBD and gummy business in Florida.

A bill being debated seeks to regulate hemp extract as a food item that would lower the dosage amount allowed in some CBD products.

The bill would also force sellers of hemp extract to be permitted.

Lawmakers have one final week to move on these bills and others in the state capital.
