Founder Ambee Stephens formed the organization in 2018, after losing her father to suicide. She said it was the women in her life that lifted her up, inspiring her to do the same for others.

“I felt connected to women. There’s something very unique about us helping one another,” Stephens said. “We are the only ones that know our everyday challenges.”

Stephens said the women that enroll in EmpowerHERment not only have the opportunity to connect with other women, but the organization also offers free services like therapy and business workshops, allowing participants to get back on their feet and even start new careers.

Ann Dort is one of the women who utilized EmpowHERment to launch her own health and wellness line.

“It’s just hard to believe that I’m really doing this,” Dort said. “I’m really pursuing my dream and my passion.”

“It’s more than a nonprofit. It’s more like a movement for us,” Stephens said.
