There are several planets that can easily be spotted with the naked eye throughout the month of July.

The brightest planet in the sky this month will be Venus, but this one is only for the early risers.  Starting around 90 minutes before sunrise, look to the east for the brightest “star-like” object in the sky; that's Venus!

It will stay visible until just before sunrise.

If you aren’t a morning person, Jupiter and Saturn will be the planets to look for throughout the month of July as they will be out nearly all night long starting just after sunset.  They aren’t hard to find as they will be relatively close together in the sky.

To spot them, first find Jupiter, which is the second-brightest planet in the sky behind Venus.  If you are looking during the evening,  Jupiter will be the brightest “star-like” object in the southeast sky.

Saturn will not be as bright as Jupiter, but is very easy to find as it is just to the east of Jupiter throughout the night.  They will gradually rise higher in the sky through the late evening hours and are visible until dawn.

Mars will also be visible this month, but it is a little trickier to spot as it is not as bright as the other planets we have talked about.  It will be visible after midnight and will be easiest to spot once Venus rises, as Mars will appear just below Venus around dawn.

There are plenty of free apps you can download on your smartphone or tablet to make it easier to find a few of these planets in the sky this month.
