An addiction treatment center in Tampa is being featured in a series that will be seen on television nationally later this year.

  • Center will be featured on "Addiction Unplugged"
  • Network carrying show yet to be announced

Riverside Recovery of Tampa invited camera crews to the center for filming of the show, called “Addiction Unplugged.”

The center has been open for just under a year and offers a program called VALOR, which is geared toward helping veterans struggling with PTSD and addiction by teaching them yoga.

“We teach you how to do yoga, to do mindful meditation and to learn how to live a more fulfilling life,” said Kirk Kirkpatrick, the CEO and co-founder of Riverside Recovery of Tampa. “A lot of people don’t have ways to cope with PTSD and if you don’t have something that is able to replace it, then you don’t have a chance.”

The VALOR program will be featured in the series.

“There are always places for you to go to ,and I hope this shows that and more people can get the help they need,” said Chris Larson, an alumnus of Riverside Recovery.

During filming, nationally known yoga instructor Dan Nevins led the class. The Iraq war veteran lost both his legs below the knee from an IED explosion in 2004.

“I used to cope and have to live with the endless wounds of war, and now through yoga and mindfulness and meditation I’ve healed from it,” said Nevins.

“Addiction Unplugged” will debut on a major cable channel this fall. The channel airing this show is not being announced yet.

“It’s all part of getting rid of the stigma of addiction,” said Kirkpatrick.
