PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. -- The new observation tower at Wall Springs Park is now open.

  • Park tower reopens after fire destroys it
  • Tower now includes handicap accessible ramp
  • Park operates daily

A suspicious fire destroyed the original tower in 2013.

This tower is larger than the old one and features a handicap accessible ramp so everyone can enjoy the views from the top.

''You can see the trees and the wildlife,'' said Dan Marshall, a park ranger.

Many park-goers had missed the tower. It's the main attraction for Yadira Calderon and her daughter Thomais.

'"This is a space where a kid can be a kid and it’s so important to have that," said Calderon.

The tower has been a key part of growth in their family, as her daughter has autism.

'"Physical milestones, strength in her body, the capability of running, the interaction with the community," said Calderon.

Wall Springs Park is open everyday from 7 a.m. to dusk.
