HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla.-- Despite weather, Hernando youth softball team gears up for the World Series.

  • Hernando softball team wins State Championship
  • Team will play in World Series in Louisiana
  • The team consists of girls ages 11 to 13

The all girls team won the State Championship and will advance to the World Series in Louisiana.

Since the big win, the team has been working hard fundraising to make sure the trip happens.

The girls say they are ready to bring home the big title.

The girls on the team are between the ages of 11 to 13 and many of them have been playing softball since they were four or five years old.

"This is a group of girls that they've just shown that skill level for a long time and now having them all together they are extremely dedicated to this sport including their parents without that it would never be where it is right now," said coach Christie Williams.

The players said that they are nervous but excited to show their skill.

"I'm kind of scared but at the same time I know that we can win because we've been undefeated," said Arreon Roberts.

This is the first time Hernando Youth Softball's Ponytail Division have made it to the World Series.

It has been 10 years since any softball team from Hernando County has made it to the World Series level.
