ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- It ended up being a wet afternoon across the region as atmospheric moisture increased rapidly. We have a south wind which is really pumping in the moisture.

Although we'll have a reduction of rain showers overnight into the morning, there will still be some out there. Expect mostly cloudy skies and morning lows in the low to mid 70s.

The southerly flow of moisture will continue into Tuesday, so expect another day of high rain chances. However, most of the storms will start in the gulf in the morning, so the best time to get outdoor work done will be in the morning.

Then expect numerous showers and storms from midday onward into the afternoon.

By the end of the day we'll end up with at least 70 percent coverage of the entire region getting some measurable rain.

In this type of pattern there will be some areas that get localized flooding in low-lying areas due to the slow movement of the heavy rains.

That, along with the extra clouds, will help to keep the temperatures in check, with most highs in the upper 80s.

The showers and storms will slowly wind down in the evening with mostly cloudy skies and lows in the low to mid 70s.

Wednesday will feature partly sunny skies and a later start to the afternoon storms, but the coverage will still end up being high in the 60 to 70 percent range.

Highs will be near 90 that day.

Atmospheric moisture will slowly decrease toward the end of the week and therefore rain coverage will slowly decrease at that time also.
