TAMPA, Fla. -- A stand your ground defense will not be allowed for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's son.

  • No stand your ground defense for sheriff's son
  • George Zachary Chronister, 24, facing aggravated battery charges
  • Chronister, the sheriff's son, brawled with another young man in Feb. 2017

On Tuesday, Circuit Judge Christopher Nash ruled that the defense will not be allowed for George Zachary Chronister, 24, who will now stand trial for aggravated battery in September.

Chronister, the son of Sheriff Chad Chronister, is accused of attacking former friend Phil Manzi after the two had a dispute in 2017 over a rap song.

An aspiring rapper, Chronister goes by the moniker Z-Chronik and reportedly released a mix tape that excluded the contributions of other artists.

That started a back-and-forth on social media and ultimately led to a fight outside a restaurant on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in New Tampa.

According to deputies, Manzi, 23, was slashed in the face and stabbed by the younger Chronister during the brawl.

Zach Chronister has said he was only defending himself.
