RUSKIN, Fla. -- A fast-moving storm late Thursday afternoon left behind a mess in Ruskin.

  • Storm snaps power lines, ripped roofs off, toppled tree
  • Intersection of 7th Street and 4th Ave in Ruskin suffered most damage
  • BN9 mets say storm likely caused by microburst

Power lines were snapped, roofs were ripped off, and at least one tree was toppled.

The intersection of 7th street southwest and 4th Avenue appeared to have suffered the most damage.

The storm moved through Ruskin around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Hillsborough County maintenance crews worked late Thursday night, chopping up the tree with saws and clearing it away along with other debris.

One neighbor said it was unlike anything she’s ever seen.

"All of a sudden, the winds started blowing directly sideways so it was blowing west," said Tammy Saxon.  "My husband’s truck was parked in front of our office and the next thing we know, the winds started blowing east."

Saxon says she told her daughter to seek shelter inside the bathroom as hail pelted the home.  No injuries were reported.

Spectrum Bay News 9 meteorologists believe the storm was likely caused by a microburst, based on the intensity.
