HOLIDAY, Fla. — A longtime Pasco County resident is celebrating a major birthday Wednesday: 105 years old!

Friends and family gathered to celebrate Barbara Peet for her big day.

"There should be another word coined for 'Thank you,'" Peet said. "I'm so grateful for all of the blessings I've had in my life."

Born in 1915, Peet is originally from Canada. She and her late husband retired to Holiday in the 1970s.

She says she was active most of her life and loved to travel.

In fact, she was still swimming in the Gulf of Mexico until the age of 95. She says that is something that helped her live a long life.

"I swam and walked," Peet said. "And I would play hop scotch and skipped rope. All that stuff."

Peet was joined at her party by her medical care team from HPH Hospice in Pasco County, who have been taking care of her.

However, she says she'll have a lot more time as her great grandmother lived to be 108.
