ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman is expected to discuss Monday if he feels stricter coronavirus measures are needed in the city.

Pinellas County officials on Wednesday issued a "safer at home" directive for residents as the coronavirus outbreak continues.

The move asks residents to stay home and only leave for essential business.

It also allows all businesses to stay open, but requires them to follow Centers For Disease Control guidelines on social distancing, if not, they need to close.

Shortly after that vote, Kriseman announced  while he supports the county's directive, it doesn't go far enough. He also said he'd be watching this weekend to see if those stricter measures were needed.

Traffic on Pinellas streets was light this weekend and downtown St. Petersburg resembled a ghost town. But is that enough considering what the mayor said last week?

Kriseman, who last week said “the only way to truly save lives and to flatten the curve is to suffer the short term pain associated with a shut down of all non-essential businesses and to stay home,” is expected to meet with Pinellas Emergency Operations Center officials on Monday.
