Details are scarce, but St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue has confirmed to Spectrum Bay News 9 that vaccine vials have been stolen.

At this point, officials have not said how many were taken, or when they were taken, but SPFR has requested an internal investigation from the St. Petersburg Police Department, according to an agency spokesperson.

Spectrum News reached out to the mayor’s office for comment, as well.

“We are aware of the allegations and understand there is a Police investigation underway,” Communications Director Ben Kirby wrote in an email.

Our news partner, the Tampa Bay Times, is reporting that St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue helps staff the vaccination site at Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg.

Last week, a Polk County Fire Rescue paramedic was arrested and accused of stealing vaccine vials.  

A PCFR captain was later arrested in connection with the case.
