ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A suspect was taken into custody early Thursday after a shooting left a woman critically injured, followed by a brief police pursuit and crash. The woman later died, according to St. Petersburg Police.

According to police, Yasmin Grijalua, 35, and Devin Hansen, 28, were visiting relatives at a home on 29th Avenue North. They argued and he shot her, injuring her.

The victim and the suspect are husband and wife, police said.

When emergency crews arrived, the suspect had already left the scene in a black Cadillac CTS, officials said.

As an officer rode in the ambulance while Grijalua was transported to an area hospital, a black Cadillac started chasing the ambulance on the interstate.

Officers nearby tried to stop the Cadillac. It fled south and a pursuit was authorized. The car later crashed into some large landscaping rocks in the 1400 block of 54th Avenue South.

The suspect was taken into custody and has been charged with first degree murder, fleeing and eluding, and domestic battery (misdemeanor), authorities said.
