ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- With prevailing winds today out of the east, storms are in the coastal counties this evening.  After these evening storms end, it will be partly cloudy overnight with low temperatures in the 70s.

  • Partly cloudy overnight, lows in the 70s
  • Winds coming from the east
  • Monday storms later in the day, highs in the 90s

Rain chances will be around 40 percent on Monday. Storms will again be later in the day moving west into the coastal counties. Winds will again be easterly allowing the afternoon sea breeze collision to occur closer to the Gulf Coast.

Storms will start on the Atlantic side then move west. Storms will end up in the coastal counties later in the day.

With rain holding off until a little later, it is likely to be hot again with low 90s for highs Monday afternoon.

Drier air in the mid and upper levels will move across Florida from the northeast. With this drier air overhead, the coverage of showers and storms will drop starting Tuesday. The rain chance will be 20 percent. East winds prevail, so any storms will pop up later in the day.

Wednesday should bring a similar pattern. A sea breeze will form, but will stay near the coast.

Rain chances stay lower than normal through the rest of the work week, since somewhat drier air remains in the mid and upper levels.

Winds shift to westerly again starting Thursday, so the few storms we have will start earlier in the day near the coast and will then shift inland.

High temperatures will be in the upper 80s near the coast, to low 90s inland, each afternoon.
