Greg Angel is an evening anchor with Spectrum News 13. He first joined Spectrum News 13 in January 2018 as a Reporter.

Since 2010, Greg has lived and worked in several regions of the state, including Tallahassee and West Palm Beach, but there’s no place he’s more at home than Central Florida.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Greg also spent time in Michigan where he started his broadcast career at his high school radio station WSDP 88.1 FM. He later worked as a reporter for Northern Michigan’s NBC affiliate, as well as an anchor and reporter at the ABC affiliate in Tallahassee and CBS affiliate in West Palm Beach. He loves how journalism allows him to put complex stories into context and to help people understand the world we live in.

With a focus on telling engaging stories, Greg has covered some of the biggest stories in recent history. Greg was in Orlando in the hours, days, and weeks following the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting, sharing the stores of the people of Orlando and their resilience in the light of tragedy.

He also covered the shooting and resulting legislative changes at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in February 2018. It should also be no surprise he has extensively covered many elections in his career, including races for Florida Governor and every presidential election since 2008.

Of the thousands of stories and issues Greg has covered in his career, few compare to the impact covering Florida’s broken unemployment system during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aggressively holding state leaders accountable, and giving Floridians a voice, it’s estimated Greg helped highlight system failures that brought legislative changes, and millions of dollars’ worth of owed benefits to tens of thousands of people.

Past assignments have taken him to the Dominican Republic as part of a more than year-long investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Palm Beach tennis pro Darryl Fornatora. He also traveled to Haugesund, Norway to see firsthand how fate helped the crew of a Norwegian supply ship to unexpectedly find the boat belonging to missing Jupiter, Florida teens Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen.

In his more than decade-long career so far, Greg has received multiple awards for his work, including being named Florida Associated Press Broadcasters’ 2019 Reporter of the Year.

Greg is a graduate of Central Michigan University (Fire Up Chips!) and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

He admits there’s no place he’d rather be living than in Central Florida, although he loves to travel the world. No surprise one of his favorite hobbies at home is plane-spotting at area airports. In his spare time, you’ll likely find him volunteering in the community, ride hopping at area theme parks, or strolling Lake Eola with his dog Tucker.Have a story idea or would just like to say hello?
