Calvin joined the Bay News 9 team as a multimedia journalist in March 2023 and is excited to be sharing the Bay Area’s stories.

Calvin grew up in Harrison Township, Michigan, not far from Metro Detroit on Lake St. Clair. While raised in the Midwest, the Bay Area has been a part of his life from the time he was young. Every year around Easter, he and his family would visit Anna Maria Island, a place he still loves to visit. On these trips, Calvin was introduced to Bay News 9 and told his family, “I’m going to work there someday!”

Calvin is a proud graduate of Wayne State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism Honors. During his time as a student, he interned at various broadcast companies, including Cumulus Media, Detroit Public Television, and WDIV-TV Local 4 News. He was also involved with the student radio station WAYN, where he hosted his own sports talk radio show and worked as a field reporter and producer during the 2015 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

Calvin began his career as a multimedia journalist and anchor for news and sports at WJMN-TV in Marquette, Michigan. He also co-hosted and co-produced the Local 3 High School Sports Zone, the only half-hour show dedicated to covering high school football and basketball in the Upper Peninsula. Calvin was recognized as Photojournalist of the Year in 2017 by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.

From there, he made his way down south to Green Bay, Wisconsin, working as a multimedia journalist at WFRV-TV where he got to cover more upbeat, positive stories as the morning reporter and weekend anchor for two years. He then took a job as a multimedia journalist for WFTX-TV in Fort Myers, Florida. Calvin has covered a number of important topics throughout his career, including stories about the COVID-19 pandemic, stately visits from politicians including former Vice President Mike Pence and President Joe Biden, and national stories such as Hurricane Ian and the disappearance and search for Gabby Petito.

When he’s not working, Calvin enjoys watching his Detroit sports teams, following the Premier League, traveling, and spending time with his family. You can find him on Twitter and Instagram @CalvinLewisTV and on Facebook as Calvin Lewis TV.
