Elton won the Oscar, going on stage to collect his second Academy Award.

Meanwhile, while Elton was at the Oscars, nearly 1,000 people were watching the show, cheering him on at his annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars viewing party in West Hollywood. Every year the event raises millions of dollars for his charity’s fight against AIDS.

This year was an extra special year, with Rocketman receiving critical acclaim and awards season attention. It upped the ante so to speak.

After Elton’s big win, he had a police escort to be able to get to his party in record time, not wanting to miss any more of it than he had to. We caught up with him as he arrived, a moment for him to reflect on the important role this film played in a very important part of his life’s journey.

“The film is so personal. It was about my journey to getting sober and the lyrics he wrote was redemption for when I got sober when he came to see me in rehab. It was such an a personal thing it wasn’t like when I went to the Lion King which that was so thrilling but this is a 12 year journey of making this film," Elton John said.

Oscar in hand, Elton told us was eager to get inside to his event’s auction. Busy man, he sure had a lot to celebrate. His newest Oscar second, his powerhouse annual fundraiser first.
