Attack, for Josh Hughes, the position fits the player.

The St.Pete Catholic senior has become one of the top goal scorers in the state.

It's pretty impressive for a kid who picked up the sport in the 5th grade after watching kids play the game in a park across the street from his house. So Josh looked up the game on You Tube and learned how to play it.

Josh Recalls his first thoughts of seeing the game in person: " I just saw how fast paced it was, I saw how there were guys of all different sizes and I’m not like the biggest guy, I was like, oh I can probably do that".

Josh will continue his Lacrosse career in college at Hampton University, his dream school.

The Barons leading scorer also excels in the classroom where he holds down a 3.5 GPA and will go on to study Criminal Justice in college, where he will follow in dad's footeps and become a police officer.

Josh explains why he chose that career path: " I grew up around law enforcement, I’ve always wanted to help people and be active in our community and my dad he’s a retired law enforcement deputy and that was probably the biggest drive for me watching him do that".

His dad Michael retired after 25 years of service with the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office.

A leader on and off the field, Josh Hughes is the perfect fit for Spectrum Sports Athlete of the week.
