The Hillsborough County teacher accused of having sex with a 12-year-old boy has admitted to the crime, according to officials.

According to Bay News 9's partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, court records filed Monday said fifth-grade teacher Ethel Anderson admitted to sex acts with a 12-year-old boy.

The admission apparently happened in a conversation secretly monitored by detectives. The records are part of a request for a search warrant.

It is not clear who wore the recording device during the conversation.

Anderson, 29, has been placed on paid administration leave at Mango Elementary School, where she works. Anderson received the Diversity Educator of the Year award last year at Mango.

The 12-year-old boy she is accused of having sex with is not a student at her school. Detectives said Anderson was a tutor for the child. She's accused of engaging with the boy in oral sex and sexual touching on several occasions.

She has taught at the school since 2006 and had no marks on her teaching record.

Hillsborough County School officials said it is likely the school board will vote to suspend her without pay.
