LAKE WALES, Fla. -- An exhibit of military uniforms and artifacts has proven to be popular at the Lake Wales Museum.

  • Museum exhibit features uniforms donated by residents
  • Uniforms will be on display through June 9

It features uniforms mostly loaned by local residents.

Marine Corps veteran Kat Gates-Skipper loaned one of her marine uniforms and her husband Charles Skipper's U.S. Army uniform. Skipper served in Vietnam.

Gates-Skipper's father Mac Mackenzie's leather flight jacket is on display as well.  The jacket brings back wonderful feelings.

"He was a wonderful father. I've been blessed to have good role models in my life," she said.

"We have citizens in this town that have sacrificed for this nation," museum curator Bartholomew Delcamp said about the display he felt honored those who served.

Delcamp has his grandfather's German dagger included in the display. He said his grandfather picked up the dagger when getting free from a prisoner of war camp toward the end of WWII.

Delcamp said the dagger was something he and his siblings gravitated toward when visiting his grandfather's home.

Now it brings back great memories.

"Because growing up that knife was associated with my grandfather and since he has passed away when I see that knife I can think of him growing up," he said.

The military uniforms will be on display at the museum through June 9.
