BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- Three dogs were rescued from a mobile home fire in Brooksville early Sunday, according to Hernando County Fire Rescue.

Firefighters were called to a fire at a residence on Benes Roush Road at about 2:44 a.m. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the mobile home.

As firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, they were able to rescue three dogs from inside the home. 

The homeowners escaped the fire before firefighters arrived, according to officials. One person was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
