TAMPA, Fla. — From TV news anchor to mentor.

Frank Robertson is used to the spotlight. Now he's sharing important life lessons to a 9-year-old boy as part of the Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Tampa Bay program.

For more than 20 years, Robertson was a Bay area TV news anchor.

Retired going on 10 years now, one of Robertson's lead stories now is Ronald. Frank is his big brother.

Through Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, the pair has been a part of each others’ lives for more than a year and a half.

"He is the sweetest, kindest young man I've ever met," Robertson said. "And he's been through some tough times. He lost his mother a couple of years ago."

Ronald’s grandmother is raising him and his sister.

His favorite subjects in school?

"I've got reading and writing," Ronald said. "And I got math and science."

Robertson says this a two way street.

"He has this incredibly bright optimistic outlook on life," he said of Ronald. "I could learn a lot from him and I have learned a lot from him."

The duo has quite a fun time hitting the town.

"We have our favorite places we like to go," Robertson said. "One might include a happy meal."

Another is the Glazer Family Children's Museum.

"There are 500 children waiting for a 'big' - waiting for a match and 70 percent of those are boys," said Robertson. "This is the most rewarding volunteer work I’ve ever done in my life."
